Activity
The activity is made up of two parts. Part one is a Voice thread and Part two is a discussion post.
Part One- Voice Thread
1. Go to the following website: http://voicethread.com/#q.b3627187.i18919946
The link will open directly to the first part of the voice thread and Samantha will start talking.
2. Once Samantha has stopped speaking, the URL for the video will appear in a bubble above Samantha’s picture.
3. Click on the URL to take you to the video http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7414970n
4. You will want to click the pause button on the bottom of the voice thread page to keep your place.
5. Watch the Video.
6. Go back to the voice thread to answer the questions that are provided. Once you have watched the video, come back to the voice thread. Click play, you will be able to see a bubble above Samantha’s picture with the questions that you need to answer.
a) Which person’s story in the video stood out to you?
b) Give two examples of how the iPad helped that person to communicate.
7. Directions for making a comment on the Voice Thread
a) Click the comment button at the bottom of the screen.
b) There are different options for making a comment. You can record, type, use a webcam or use your phone.
c) Select the option you wish to use and then follow the direction that it gives you.
8. Once you have posted your comment, click on the arrow at the bottom right corner of your screen to go to the second part of the voice thread.
9. Samantha will start talking. The questions you need to answer will appear in a bubble above Samantha’s picture.
10. Select your method of making a comment and follow the directions.
Part two- Discussion
Under the Activity tab there is a discussion page. Go to the discussion page and answer one of the two questions. Please only write a short paragraph (4 to 5 sentences).
1. Pick a technology that was presented on the website and explain how you, as a teacher, would use it in the classroom.
2. Find another example of a technology for communication and give a description of how the product works, who would benefit from using it and how it may be used in a classroom.
